► Infographic: Paid Sick Leave Laws Around The U.S.

Prior to 2014, there were only 4 paid sick leave laws in effect nationwide. That number has grown to more than 30 laws, covering several states, cities, and counties.  The infographic below provides a broader picture of which states, cities, and counties offer paid sick leave laws.

The most recent update added to the infographic below reflects Westchester County, New York's new Earned Sick Leave Law, which requires covered employers to provide sick leave. Whether the law is paid or unpaid depends on the size of the employer. Employers with 5 or more employees must provide paid leave. Smaller employers may provide leave on an unpaid basis. The law takes effect on April 10, 2019.

In Texas, the City of Austin's Paid Sick Leave has been blocked by a court order. The San Antonio ordinance is likely to face similar challenges, and it's fate may rest on the outcome of the legal challenge to the Austin ordinance.
